You'll Find Me Where the Wild Things Are

There is something wild in each of us, but we are taught to suppress it.

We question our deep passions. We conform to societal norms. We don’t listen to the hunger of our own dreams, because we are too busy trying to figure out what the rest of the world wants us to dream. In our early years, we forget what we are made of.

But there will be a time in your life when this will change. It might be after a life-changing experience or maybe after you have hit what feels like rock bottom. It might first occur to you when you are listening to a song or sitting in church or stargazing with your best friends.

There will come a time when you figure out that you are entirely made up of the things around you.

You will feel the moon and the stars inside of you, and your life won’t seem so scary anymore.  Once you feel that the wind and the sunshine and the very ground lives within your body, whatever mountains you are climbing won’t seem so intimidating.

It’s as if a lightning bolt strikes your core and generates an electrical current throughout your nerves and blood vessels. A spark is lit, and you will feel it rush to your fingers and toes like a wildfire. Your organs will begin to tingle. Your heart will want to love more. Your brain will want to learn more. Your stomach will want to eat richer foods, and your eyes will want to seek out beautiful things.

In a pure moment, your dreams will become magnified and real. They will keep you awake into the early hours of the morning. They will drive you mad. It will feel like a wild beast is living in your soul. Listen to it. Feed its appetite. Let it drive some of your decisions.

Because when you realize that the most magical parts of the universe live inside your being, you will be unstoppable.

You will feel inspired by the pebbles that sit on the sidewalk and the trees that line the road. You will find hope in the snowflakes that fall on your eyelashes and the raindrops that splatter against your window.

You are full of the world. You are made of the same water, the same stardust, the same atoms, as the Grand Canyon, Mount Everest, and the Great Barrier Reef. You, too, are a great wonder of the earth. You, too, are magic.

The wild inside of you will identify your purpose. It will hand you opportunities, and make your dreams come alive. It will make you work harder than you ever have. It will make you invest in yourself. It will lead you to new people and places. It will urge you to travel. It will force you out of your comfort zone.

There is wild in all of us. Embrace it. Listen to it. Be it.
