I grew up with Taylor Swift. I’ve never met her, but I grew up with her. She is one of the most iconic women of our time. Her ability to put into words what millions of girls are feeling is truly a gift. She’s inspiring and beautiful, but most importantly, she’s kind.
“I'm alone, on my own, and that's all I know
I'll be strong, I'll be wrong, oh but life goes on, I'm just a girl, trying to find a place in this world”
She’s on our side, and she is scary relatable. We are all trying to find our place, and Taylor’s positive attitude and giving soul is an incredible example of what a celebrity should look like. They have an incredible opportunity to touch many people, but there are too many celebrities that get caught up in that life and lose their way.
Taylor has beautifully been able to use her fame to make people’s lives better by staying true to herself in a business that could have had a much different impact on her. She inspires me to do what I can for the people in my life. She is conscious of the fact that the women who look up to her, follow her lead. And she leads by the best example.
I don't know how it gets better than this
You take my hand and drag me head first
And I don't know why but with you I'd dance in a storm in my best dress.
She’s fearless. Maybe not all the time, but she inspires us in the most honest way to be courageous. When we’re happy in our own skin, in a soul sister friendship, or with someone in our lives that makes us feel at home, we can find the bravery in ourselves to move forward. To branch out. To dance.
Time turns flames to embers
You'll have new Septembers
Every one of us has messed up too
Minds change like the weather
I hope you remember
Today is never too late to be brand new
She’s humble. She reminds us that we all make mistakes. She treats people equally and even when someone harms her, she responds with such grace and understanding that, if I’m honest, makes me feel a little shameful about how I’ve treated some people in my life who have wronged me. It can change someone’s way of life if we react with forgiveness instead of anger.
We're happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time
It's miserable and magical.
Tonight's the night when we forget about the deadlines
She’s flawed. Taylor shows us that she’s not perfect, no matter how much I want and do believe she is. She’s happy and confused and lost. But that’s why we love her because so are we. She reminds us to be young and to hold on to our childish souls as long as we can. There’s so much hope and opportunity in the eyes of a child.
Like any great love, it keeps you guessing
Like any real love, it's ever-changing
Like any true love, it drives you crazy
But you know you wouldn't change anything
She’s always learning. Sometimes I forget to be open to change. I forget to allow the spontaneity of life to take over. There is so much life in the unknown and so much about yourself that you’ll learn if you take that first step of the journey.
It just has to be said. Thank you Taylor, for being a light in this world, for holding your values so dear to your heart, and for allowing us to see your soul. Even those who don’t hold her music close to their hearts have to see what a positive influence and role model she is to young women. The melodies are one thing but the words she has written and the passion she shares will live on forever because of the lives she changed through them. It’s hard to imagine that like me, she is ‘just a girl, trying to find a place in this world.’
