Latest news to keep my brain fueled and help me raise my A-game: Click, Oh hello theSkimm! Check!
Thanks to Co-founders Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin, this is how more than a million people and counting start their day: grooving on a daily dose of theSkimm, a smart, snackable email newsletter distilling the most important headlines, news stories, and trending content delivered to your inbox Monday through Friday. The pair originally met while studying abroad in college and later reconnected working as producers for NBC News. It was there that they hatched the idea for theSkimm—giving busy people an opportunity to stay connected to the news and information that shapes their day to day and that, in many situations, has a huge impact. Danielle and Carly are big advocates of giving your mind the love it needs by feeding it with ideas and happenings that put you in the know in the short term and make you a well-rounded beauty in the long run!
If you could describe yourself in one hashtag, what would it be?
What are you most proud of?
DW: That I remember to feed my puppy and wake up on time. The struggle is real. And that we started theSkimm from our couch.
CZ: That we didn't let naysayers get in our way and learned how to identify and trust a gut feeling in starting theSkimm.
What piece of advice changed your life?
DW & CZ: Focus. Focus. Focus. In order to do that, it's ok to say 'no' more than you say 'yes.’
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken and what did you learn from it?
DW & CZ: The biggest risk we've ever taken was starting theSkimm. We have learned more about business and life than we ever thought we would in three years. It's been a total adventure but we thinking of ourselves do differently than we did a few years ago. We bet on ourselves and developed a totally new skill set and network because of it.
What do you love about yourself?
DW: I love that I can make myself laugh -- especially in high stress situations.
CZ: I love that I can make myself laugh too and that I've always beat to my own drum in many ways
Why are you THAT GIRL?
DW: Because I am focused on building out my future while still very much struggling with how to balance the day to day.
CZ: Because I have strong core values and keep them in line while trying to be ambitious and goal oriented.
