Taking The Leap

By Megan Wordsworth, Guest Blogger

There are times in life when you just need a moment to recharge. I had been feeling very unmotivated and uninspired lately and was in desperate need of someone to tell me to leap for my dreams. I was reassured of that when I heard I AM THAT GIRL founder Alexis Jones speak at Sweet Retreat in Wilmington, NC.

I was lucky enough to attend the weekend retreat designed for women to inspire, recharge and tap into our creativity. Alexis was the keynote speaker and she left the room in awe. From the moment she walked in, I could see the confidence and the happiness that she had in her life. I long for that feeling in my own life.

Alexis spoke for a good two hours about taking the leap of faith, following your dreams, and following your heart. The way that she lived what she spoke was just so genuine.

Having lived in North Carolina all of my life, I am aware that it is against the norm to leave home. Most of the people I graduated high school with are still within forty-five minutes of there. I have never wanted that for my life. In fact, staying close to home has always been my biggest fear.

It is not that I do not love my hometown and the people, because believe me, I do. But I have always had such big dreams and longed to live in a big city. I have been contemplating transferring schools for a little while now, but I never actually made a decision to take a chance and go for it. I had become so set on just sticking it out, even if it meant I would be miserable for a few years. I have been so afraid of leaving my family and going against the norm that I have been sacrificing my own dreams.

Alexis was the little push I needed; I am now motivated to pursue other schools. The road ahead will not be easy, but it is a far better option than to settle and be unhappy the rest of my life. I am also writing this as a reminder of my intention. Now, the whole world can hold me accountable if I do not pursue my dreams. No pressure, right?

I do not know what the future holds, but I am now more ready than ever to set out and pursue my dreams and passions.

Let's Chat! Think about a goal or a dream that you have. What's holding you back from reaching for it?
