This time of year is brutal for many. The “Back-To-School” excitement is littered with anticipation of the year to come and anxiety over the unknown. I remember being completely energized by back-to-school shopping and organizing. It was so fun to dream about what surprises the year had in store. Of course… that was when I was 8.
At nearly 28, things are a bit different. This time of year is, for lack of a better word, CRAZY for me. There are more demands and more stressors placed on me during August, September, and October than the rest of the year combined. Some days, I’m working from my bed before I even get up to brush my teeth. Those days, it’s almost impossible for me to wake up with a grateful heart.
Coming to this realization got me thinking.
Why do I spend so much time stressing about the stress that’s placed on me?
I dread tackling difficult situations and let the worry fester within me until I cannot bear it any longer. I end up crabby, irritated, and overwhelmed by fear and sadness, simply because I’ve allowed the stress to take over. Well, that’s enough of that BS if you ask me!!

Time for a new game plan:
Prioritize. I have a kick ass planner that I will use to my advantage. Prioritizing the most important and most immediate tasks will help me to feel accomplished throughout the day.
Schedule Me Time. I will use that planner to set aside some “Me Time” during my day. It may be an hour to snag a workout, reading a book with my lunch, or just 10 minutes to take a walk outside
Gratitude. I think a grateful heart is key to maintaining happiness. I am going to put my best foot forward at starting and ending each day with a grateful heart. Maybe I’ll read a bible passage or write a journal entry each morning, and maybe I’ll spend some time reading or meditating before bed.
Whatever the day brings, I will do my best to remember that life is full of beauty even during those stressful times.
Stress can be hard to deal with, but if we take time to recognize the little things that keep our lives meaningful, we can combat stress on the daily. Don’t let your stressors eclipse the beauty in your life. It’s far too good for that! Take some time to enjoy the sparkle… it’s worth it!
