“Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes
Hold back the river so I
Can stop for a minute and see where you hide
Hold back the river, hold back” – James Bay

I think about life a lot.

There is so much to life, and it gets me every time I stop and take a moment. If I listen to a song or stare out the window too long, it’s as if I escape reality.

Life is so beautiful and yet so messy.

Life consists of heartbreak and love, birth and death, pain and joy, madness and happiness; life is full of rainbows after the storm. Whenever I sit down and just have time for myself, I usually end up on the topic of life. Life amazes me with all that happens and how and when. When I think about it, we live life in the fast lane. We live through schedules and to-do lists. We live through always having to do something. We don’t stop to slow down and appreciate this life. We don’t realize how much we endure and overcome within a day or even an hour. Life is breathtaking when you really look around. We, as humans, encounter heartbreak and love, success and failure, big decisions and small choices; life is a multitude of emotions and experiences. With as much as we go through, I don’t think we give ourselves time to sit back and be grateful for life. We are taught to always be on the move, and we never notice the beauty surrounding us or take a moment to be calm and peaceful.

I encourage you, in the midst of holiday season with all its holiday parties, cooking, and running errands, to take time for yourself.

Take sometime to be with yourself and reflect on how far you’ve come in the past year or maybe just month and be thankful for where you’re at on this journey called life. Revel in the beauty surrounding you from snow and Christmas lights to friends and family that have your back to the quiet moments on Sunday when you know you have to head back to work tomorrow. Just take a moment and take everything in and see what you begin to dream about. I promise you’ll be thankful and happy after some me-time.
