Six Ways to A Better Life


Everyone wants to know how to live a better life. The most important thing is to be conscious of your life and how you want each day to go. You must be purposeful with your actions and remember that you are in control of your life, it does not rule you. The following six simple steps will help you on your way to living a more fulfilling and enjoyable life.

1. Be kind and take time to give back.

As I get older, I’ve realized how happy it makes me feel when I give back. It’s such a simple concept, but giving back and helping others really will make you a happier person. We are social, emotional beings and experiencing the joy and love you get from helping another human being can instantly cheer you up.

2. Let go of your ego.

We often go through life feeling as though we have to do certain things to be successful. What we forget to realize, though, is that this feeling of “having to” is simply our ego making us feel like we need to do an act a certain way in order to have a good life. We must shift this perspective and realize that life is a privilege and we don’t have to do anything.

3. Recognize when fear is the obstacle.

Fear is a very interesting concept. It’s kind of like a virus that enters our brains and poisons our every thought. It can make you completely change your mind about something and make you feel like you’re not good enough, strong enough or smart enough. Recognizing that fear exists is the first step to overcoming its power. Usually fear means you’re doing something big, brave, important or special and just because it’s scary, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Next time you feel yourself giving into fear, shove it aside and keep going.

4. Surround yourself with supportive people.

Have you ever noticed that we remember the negative things people say about us as opposed to the positive ones? So from now on, promise yourself you’ll no longer pay any attention to the negative things. We must remember to surround ourselves with the people that love and support us. They’re the ones who truly have our backs, know what we are going through and know the real us.

5. Appreciate the good in your life.

With so much going on around us, it’s easy for us to get caught up in the things we don’t have. As I mentioned before, this life we have been given is a gift and we get to do and be whatever we want. The grass doesn’t always have to be greener on the other side. Look around you, be thankful for your privileges, appreciate your family and friends along with all the gifts this world has given you and stop spending your time wishing you had someone else’s life.

6. Set goals for yourself by being proactive, not reactive.

It’s so easy to stroll through life, reacting to the day-to-day events going on in our lives. You wake up, go to school or work, engage in your responsibilities and carry on with your normal routine. This is not proactive, though. It’s important to actively write down or talk about your goals and dreams. Then take steps each and every day that will help you realize these dreams and don’t simply run through your days as though you are a programmed robot. Do things that scare you, try new hobbies and engage in activities that both interest and challenge you.
