Rock and Soul: Selena Gomez Inspires!

By: Lea Ware, Guest Blogger

It is no secret that Selena Gomez loves sitting at home in sweats and a t-shirt watching her favorite movie and eating popcorn with pickle juice on top.Yes you read that right!

But as you may not know, Selena Gomez is my role model and I am a true Selenator. To be honest, I have spent four hours starring at this piece of paper wondering how I should introduce Selena Gomez. As I wrote, I thought to myself, if Selena were reading this (a girl can dream), she would want me to be myself.

With that being said, SELENA GOMEZ is THAT GIRL!!! She is beautiful, funny, talented, and I just love her!

As I have learned from IATG, being THAT GIRL is a person who is confident in their own skin, someone who loves and expresses who they are, and someone who is a role model and never gives up. In my opinion Selena Gomez is that girl.

Selena is confident in her own skin by wearing that million-dollar smile on her face even when she is happy or sad. She expresses her feeling emotionally through her music and expresses her personality through her clothes and most importantly to her fans. Selena has her “Selenators” that look up to her all around the world. She has showed her fans that she is a typical girl like you and me. She loves to tell jokes, spend time with her friends, and spend time with her family and her new baby sister. She does have some troubles with the paparazzi, boys, and media. But there is one aspect that Selena carries in her life that most celebrities tend not to show. Can you guess what it is? Love.

Selena wants her fans to know how much she loves them. She shared an important message in a presentation she did with an organization called “We Day.” She stated, “I know what it’s like to be judged and be put down, I know what it’s like to have other people form opinions about you without even knowing you; trying to dim your light. I know what you guys go through because I go through it every single day.”

Selena also pointed out that whether bullying takes place online or in person it’s important to handle the situation maturely and with compassion. “I want to say you are not defined by an Instagram photo, by a like, by a comment, that does not define you, I want you guys to know that the trick is to focus on the love and what I want you guys to do — every rude comment you get, every person that tries to hurt you, personally or through the internet, I want you to forgive them, just forgive them ’cause they don’t even know. They have no idea. We all deserve more than we think and in the end nobody remembers those haters, the comments, no one remembers them, they are just background noise, Like my friend Taylor says, ‘The haters are gonna hate. Just shake it off.’ And just be you, be true to yourself love yourself, have confidence in yourself and everything will be fine.”

When I watched her perform and state that message in front of millions of fans and people around the world, I knew that Selena is THAT GIRL! She carries such confidence and tries to inspire and motivate others, which I believe is truly remarkable and courageous.

I would like to share something personal with all of you. I was so blessed and honored to be able to go to Selena’s concert “Stars Dance” with one of my best friends Devin Milana. This little boy has a heart condition and out of all his dreams he had on his bucket list, his number one goal in his life was to meet Selena Gomez. This would not have been accomplished if an organization called “Make A Wish” did not step in. I was so proud that he had a chance to make his dream come true because Devin is the type of person who always smiles. He carries a light with him and makes people laugh and smile and you would have not known that he had a heart condition. He is an inspiration to so many people and I am so glad that I could call him my friend.

To dream of meeting a celebrity or to dream of being someone’s role model—no matter who you are, a celebrity or not--is something very magical and can not be put into words.

Selena Gomez is someone who never gives up. She is not only true to herself but also true to her fans. She is a role model for so many individuals and is leaving her name across our hearts. Selenators love her for who she is and for being herself, which is why people love her. She has taught us to love and forgive people because no one is perfect. She is spreading love with a simple smile and is living her life to the fullest. As I have learned, there are a thousand languages in the world but a smile speaks them all.

So to my role model, Selena Gomez if you are reading this, IATG community, Selenators and myself, would like you to know that YOU ARE THAT GIRL and thank you for being you. You have written your name across our hearts and we love you for that!
