Human trafficking has become one of the most prevalent and abhorrent issues facing our society today. Modern day slavery and sex trafficking have become so prevalent that we can no longer afford to look the other way. It is estimated that 1 percent of the world’s population has fallen victim to trafficking in some form. That amounts to nearly 73 million people.  Of that 73 million, nearly ½ are under the age of 16, so children are particularly susceptible to this horrific trade. Despite the staggering statistics many organizations and individuals are reaching out to make an impact and put a stop to human trafficking.

John Studinski is an investment banker and a philanthropist who invests in the group Talitha Kum, the international network of consecrated Life against trafficking of persons.

This group of nuns takes it upon themselves to go into brothels and rescue victims of human trafficking, often disguising themselves as prostitutes to get inside.

Studinski supports their work, and he wants to see an end to human trafficking. He praises the undercover work the women do saying, “They work in brothels. No one knows they are there.”  The nuns often use undercover methods to rescue individuals, and therefore confuse traffickers with their ability to blend in with their surroundings and provide support to victims.

This group of nuns operates in nearly 80 countries, and they go to great lengths to try and rescue victims of human trafficking. Often, they may even buy girls in order to help rescue them and take them to protective shelters and recovery groups, where they are provided with basic day to day care they need to recover from their traumatic experiences.  The group particularly focuses on children who have been sold into slavery by their parents.

I find the work this group does tremendous.

It is incredible that there are dedicated individuals and organizations like Talitha Kum who can help put an end to human trafficking at all costs. Individuals like John Studinski also prioritize this type of work in their charitable giving, which is something many more people can do to assist varying organizations in combating human trafficking.

I believe that it is time that this type of work gained more attention from philanthropist. Studinski has stated, “I’m not trying to be sensational but I’m trying to underscore the fact this is a world that has lost innocence where dark forces are active.” As a powerful businessman, he sees the impact that his donations can have on organizations that are fighting against trafficking. I am so inspired by Mr. Studinski, as well as Talitha Kum. I think that spreading awareness about human trafficking statistics, as well as supporting various organizations that are leading the fight against it, can have the greatest impact on alleviating this issue for good. Our generation needs to be a strong voice in advocacy for these victims.

Let's chat!
