Music Mondays: Sara Bareilles

Sara's ode to self-acceptance, "Beautiful Girl," was inspired by her own adolescent struggle with body image issues. In this concert video filmed at the Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara last month, the singer/songwriter explains how she felt pressure growing up and how it took her 32 years to come to terms with it. "We get taught strange things especially as young women; it's really confusing," she declares onstage.

Sara literally burst onto the music scene with her infectious first single, "Love Song" back in 2007. Her platinum follow-up, Kaleidoscope Heart, also produced a hit, Grammy-nominated track, "King of Anything." What's even more amazing is that Sara has no formal training. She's originally from Eureka, CA and relocated to Los Angeles to attend UCLAs Communication Studies program. During her years at UCLA, Sara performed with an a cappella group, making her the perfect addition to the judging panel on NBC's The Sing-Off.
