Music Mondays: Patty Griffin

What can we say about the soulful, lyrical, heart wrenching vocals of singer/songwriter Patty Griffin that haven't already been said? The youngest of six siblings, Griffin learned how to stand out and make her gorgeous voice heard at an early age. By sixteen she was writing songs and though she had no intention of pursuing music professionally, a career came calling in the early '90s after Griffin was scouted by A&M Records who produced her first album Flaming Red.

Six albums later, Griffin has established herself as a darling on the indie-folk-Americana scene: She's collaborated with musicians from Emmy Lou Harris to Buddy Miller and, most recently, Robert Plant; has had many of her songs covered by artists like The Dixie Chicks, Melissa Ferrick, and Miranda Lambert; and she has even had her songs turned into the 2007 musical, 10 Million Miles, staged by the Atlantic Theatre Company.

American Kid is Griffin's latest studio album. Written as a tribute to her father, whom she lost a year ago, the songs are highly personal, introspective, and more than a little courageous. Enjoy the hit single "Ohio" featuring additional vocals by Robert Plant and don't forget to check out all the outstanding tunes on I AM THAT GIRL'S Music Monday's Playlist!
