Folk/pop singer/songwriter Laura Veirs is stretching her musical and creative roots. Her inspiration? Motherhood. One of Veirs most recent projects has been the album, Tumble Bee: Laura Veirs Sings Folks Songs For Children, which won her a Parents' Choice Award in 2012. The birth of her second son, Oz, promises to help further fuel Veirs feminine perspective on being an artist, mother, and creative role model for a younger generation.
Based in Seattle, Veirs is known for her haunting melodies and lyrics that blend everyday happenings with deep and keen introspection. At other times Veirs dabbles in social commentary, bringing her unique perspective on many of the issues of the day putting her in company with such influential female artists as Patty Griffin and Emmy Lou Harris.
Veirs' newest album Warp and Weft is slated to drop on August 20th. It features her signature sound accompanied by a group of well-known collaborators such as Neko Case. You can preview the first track from the new album, "Sun Song" and don't forget to check out all the great tunes on I AM THAT GIRL's Music Mondays playlist, updated each week!
