Music Mondays: Kate Voegele

There have been many performances of Leonard Cohen's epic song, "Hallelujah," from Jeff Buckley's well-known version to contestants on American Idol, but Kate's haunting acoustic cover is truly a unique and heartfelt interpretation. The video is just as stripped down as the track focusing mainly on Kate and her guitar. She may not be a household name yet, but Kate's definitely not a newcomer to the music scene.

Most audiences know Kate from her role on the TV series, One Tree Hill, where she played struggling singer/songwriter Mia Catalano. Kate had already released her first album before appearing on the show, though. She grew up just outside Cleveland, Ohio and started playing guitar at 15 years old. Even as a teenager, Kate's talent made an impression and she had the privilege of sharing the stage with Neil Young at Farm Aid. Kate would also go on to open for the likes of Patty Griffin, Grace Potter and Natasha Bedingfield. The singer/songwriter signed with MySpace Records in 2006, and the new label produced her debut album. Her stint on One Tree Hill was what really helped her gain a wider following and led to more albums. Kate released her third record, Gravity Happens, just last year. Kate's inspirational ability to express genuine emotion and passion through her music makes us want to shout her name from the rooftops!
