What do you get when you mix folk music with the smooth sounds of '90s R&B? Well, the surprisingly sublime result is the "three sisters and a mister" known collectively as Haim. With the upbeat track "Forever," the group offers a pulsating beat layered under mesmerizing harmonies. The video is just as fun, full of bikes, dancing and clips of old home movies.
San Fernando Valley sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim make up the innovative band along with drummer Dash Hutton. The girls actually grew up performing classic rock songs with mom and dad as part of the family band, Rockinhaim. Fueled by an extended passion for TLC, En Vogue, Aaliyah, Brandy and Monica, the sisters eventually branched out to cultivate a more pop-centric sound. This versatile trio has also achieved success on a variety of platforms from eldest sibling Este earning a music degree at UCLA to middle sister Danielle touring with Julian Casablancas as well as Jenny Lewis. Haim released a three-track EP called Forever in February, which is available as a free download on the band's site, and managed to rock the house at SXSW back in March. We simply adore the fresh take the sisters and that unrelated mister are bringing to contemporary music. The borderline euphoric energy propelling the groups unconventional melodic mashup is truly infectious.
