Music is an expression of emotion. It’s a vehicle to spread love and connect with people worldwide. Whether it’s a specific song, an artist, or an entire genre, music speaks to everyone in its own unique way. Singing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve taken voice lessons since I was 8-years-old, been in choir since I was 10, done musical theatre since 11, and continually sing regardless of if I’m alone or in a group. It is helps me distress. Plus I love doing it!
Do you sing? Are you like me, trying to sing at every turn or are you one of those who only sing in the shower? Have you ever even thought about trying to sing? I have friends who sing so quietly you have to strain just to hear a note. I also have friends who would never think of opening their mouth to try something as simple as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” Even if you don’t want to sing or play an instrument, you can always be an avid music appreciator. I listen to music every single day, all different types. I connect with what musicians are saying and can equate it to events in my own life.
There are times when it speaks directly to how I am feeling.
I empower you to use music as a weapon. Not a violent one, but one that attacks the bad feelings that may sweep over you and replaces them with calm, peaceful feelings. Listen to whatever style you want! While heavy metal may seem more earth shattering than relaxing, if it’s what you love, then listen to it. I myself love music from the 70s, pop, and smooth piano tracks. Just let the music speak to you. You never know what it will say. Sometimes, it gives pretty great advice.
