I’ve always felt like I have a fire inside of me that wants to burn down society’s standards and expectations for girls. It’s easy to feel nervous to speak out about what matters to you when the people around you don’t have the same passion surrounding the issues that you do. As a part of IATG, I would be able to talk with other girls with similar views as myself and who have just as much drive as I do to make a change and start a revolution in 2017. There are endless topics and subcategories under the general term of “Feminism” that I would love to address and explore and I hope to use IATG as an outlet to be able to do so.

So I just finished reading Alexis Jones’ I Am That Girl book, and wow, let me say that was the ultimate pep talk, and advice i so desperately needed at this point in my life. I am a senior at LMU, and I wouldn’t say I’m scared to the enter the real world, but I’m frustrated because there are so many things I want in my life, but don’t necessarily know how to achieve them. Reading the I Am That Girl book made me realize I’m not alone. No one knows how to get from point A to point B, but that is part of what defines me. My ambition, passion, and not letting fear get me down. I want to join the chapter to find like minded individuals who want to support each other and build each other up. In 2016 i made it a goal of mine to define the term self worth for myself. I think I have done a pretty good job, but I now realize it will be an ongoing journey to feel confident in myself on a day to day basis. I feel motivated and empowered right now by I Am That Girl and I’m going to continue to keep this mentality going forward into the new year. xo, Jordan

I was raised to believe that, with hard work and big dreams, I could be, do or have anything. I know the power that gives a person. I want to share that. I’m an artist, and one of my 2017 projects is all about empowering girls. I believe this is the year of the girl and I want to go BIG!

I want to be a part of a community where I can stand up for others, the way I once needed someone to stand up for me.

I Am That Girl actually came to my high school, Notre Dame San Jose 5 or so years ago. The LMU I AM THAT GIRL page just followed me on Instagram, and I actually had no idea that LMU had a chapter. I am a marketing student and would love to join and help get more people involved! Please contact me :) -Kristen
