I have the absolute worst case of Chronic Resting Bitch Face (CRBF). Maybe it’s hereditary. But no matter the reason, for years people have told me that I’m wildly intimidating when they first meet me, because I look like a heinous b!tch when I’m thinking or trying to concentrate. Which got me to thinking—why are we so afraid of being called a bitch or any other form of the word? Why are we so afraid of being called intimidating, fierce, or any synonym there of?
I must admit, I was ashamed of my CRBF for the longest time. I mean, who doesn’t want to be that girl with the perfect angelic face who everybody wants to go up and meet instantly? The girl with the endearing, inviting smile or whatever. I’ve got personality for that. I use my character to reel people in and keep them intrigued long enough to still come back for more. Why do I need my face to do that too? It’s already awesome! I already take care of my skin! (But enough modesty for now)
I honestly don’t think very much about my CRBF. It’s just something that happens every once in a while when I actually need to get sh*t done. And most people know that I’m not actually mean, just incredibly sarcastic and can crack a joke. But get in the way when I’m focused and doing something? Hades had a better chance of freezing to death.
But, back to CRBF. Why is it a crime to be seen as a bitch? Why is it something to feel ashamed about? And when are we gonna own the fact that the way the word “bitch” is being used, typically describes someone who’s on top of her game, who’s looking to be an Alpha Female, and who wants to find and maintain her own worth? And if we look intimidating while we concentrate, good. We’re looking for a pack to run with who can keep up with us, not somebody fulfilling the secondary definition of the word “pansy” or “wuss.” Concentrate, think, do what you need to. It’s often been noted that we’ll change the world, simply because we know we can. And, if CRBF helps get us there, than even better. I don’t have time for anybody who can’t keep up with my energy.
