How are you feeling today? How have you been feeling for the past week? Month? Year? Have you taken the time out of your busy day to check in on yourself? If you haven’t, this is your reminder.
We are humans, and we feel. We forget that what we feel is valid, and we forget to try to understand our feelings.
I have learned to become more aware of my feelings and why I’m feeling them. This practice in self-awareness helps me to understand who I am as a person and how and why these particular feelings exist.
But again, we are humans. We get wrapped up in everything around us but ourselves. We want to know who is dating who in the celebrity world, and we worry less about how our personal relationships are doing. We often want to be someone else for a day, and we don’t question that, even though we should. A lot of things we desire stem from emotions that we may not be addressing. This is why it’s important for us to consistently check in with ourselves. It helps us understand how we’re developing as a person and whether or not that development leads us to become the best versions of ourselves.

Questions that may arise when we reflect upon our lives and how we have developed include: What are we proud of? What are we not so proud of? How are our priorities? Are any of these things factoring into how I am feeling?
Many of us are so busy with our lives that we don’t take the time to sit down and reflect.
I am most certainly a victim of time, in that I never make time to ask these questions. I always find a reason to not write in my journal or quickly brush off my emotions by saying, “oh, I’m just a bit moody today.” As I sit here and write this post, I reflect on these questions and realize how long it’s been since I asked these questions and how different my responses are since a few months ago.
So this is a reminder to all of us. We must make time to check in with ourselves as often as possible. We cannot sacrifice our emotional health, because it affects how we conduct ourselves in our daily lives without realizing it. With so much going on in our lives, we have to take the time to sit down and reflect on ourselves and how the hustle and bustle of our lives is affecting us. But most of all, we are humans. We may forget to check in with ourselves, but reminders like these allow us to reflect more often. My hope is that through this blog, I will hold not only myself, but all of you, accountable for continually checking in, because how and why we feel matters.
When was the last time you checked in with yourself? How have you been doing? Tell us below!
