I am sitting in front of a blank screen trying to come up with something, anything, to write. But I am coming up empty. I honestly don’t know what to write that may inspire others. Inspiration has just been lacking for me recently.
How am I supposed to inspire others when the inspiration is just missing for me right now?
It’s really frustrating. I know that I have so much good in my life and I’m grateful for all that I have. But even though I have great things going for me, I’ve hit a bit of a rough patch. I’m stressed, tired, a bit disappointed with how things are going right now, and a little sad.
Life is really like a rollercoaster, it has its ups and downs. Even if you recognize the good in your life, it’s hard to focus on the good when you’re just feeling down.
Here’s the thing. Life kicks us around sometimes. It scares us and beats us up. It’s full of hard times and disappointments. We get our hearts broken. We face insurmountable demons. We are forced to face our disappointments, fears, loss, failure and betrayal.
Remember that it is not about IF we get beat down or IF we get disappointed, it’s about WHEN. It’s bound to happen and sometimes disappointment happens more than any of us would like.
But it’s ok to be disappointed. It’s actually really important. It’s in the midst of our adversities that we find a sixth gear within ourselves that we didn’t even know existed. Our hardships and disappointments help us realize that we are stronger than we even knew.
While writing this, the song “Lessons Learned” by Carrie Underwood came up on my iTunes, and one of her lyrics seems fitting here. “And every tear that had to fall from my eyes, every change, life has thrown me. I'm thankful, for every break in my heart, I'm grateful, for every scar, some pages turned, some bridges burned, but there were lessons learned.”
You may not think you can get through the hard times when you are in the midst of them. But eventually, the day will come when you realize that you’re a warrior and are stronger than anything life throws your way. You will get through the hardships with time, and you will realize that those hardships and disappointments have made you stronger. It is hard to see that when you’re in the midst of it, trust me I really do know. But I look back on some of the harder times in my life, and I see how much I’ve learned, and how much stronger I really am. All you can do is push forward and grow.
But you don’t have to do it alone. Turn to those who you trust. They will be more than willing to help you through.
So, I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes from One Tree Hill:
“The important thing is not to be bitter over life's disappointments. Learn to let go of the past, and recognize that everyday won't be sunny. And when you find yourself lost in the darkness and despair, remember it's only in the black of night you can see the stars, and those stars will lead you back home. So don't be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble, to fall, cause most of the time the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most…Who knows where life will take you. The road is long and in the end, the journey is the destination.”
When was the last time you tackled a hardship or beat back a disappointment? What did you learn? How do you view hardships now? Tell us more here!
