We are taking care of every little detail to make sure that GIRL2016 will be the MOST fun, MOST exciting, and MOST safe event you’ve ever been to! As we get closer to the date of the event, you will be the first to know all the amazing details - like the best places to stay, who the fantastic celebrity guests will be and any other fun surprises we have up our sleeves! For now, just focus on arranging your travel to Los Angeles! If you or your parent/guardian have any questions about anything, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where is the event taking place?
#GIRL2016 is taking place in Westwood, Los Angeles, CA!
I heard I can bring a plus one! Is that true?!
Yes! If you would like to invite someone to this event, we are allowing each of our members one guest! This person will need to register for a ticket in advance. Please direct them to the registration link and when they are prompted to fill in their Chapter Name AND Chapter Leader Name, they must use the code YOUR NAME GUEST in both fields. For example, if my name is Oprah Winfrey, my guest would use this code: OPRAH WINFREY GUEST. If this code AND your name are not connected to their registration, they will not be issued a ticket.
What if my mom wants to come?
If you're under the age of 18 and want to bring a chaperone like a mom or a dad or big sister with you, you are welcome to! Please have them register as a guest (see question above). If they have any questions, they can email email@example.com.
I know that IATG Local Chapters are for girls ages 14-22, but I'm a Chapter Member of a Community Chapter outside of that age range! Can I still come?
Yes! You are a part of this movement and we need your presence at #GIRL! You are essential in helping us grow this community and we need you to join us in finding girls in your communities to launch more chapters. While the focus of the program will be for girls ages 14-22, it's people like YOU who can help us reach more of them. So get to this event, and show up for the girls who are following in your footsteps!
How much will it cost me?
The tickets to GIRL are absolutely free to our Chapter Members and Leaders! However, you are responsible for all costs associated with getting to LA as well as hotel and food. In order to determine the cost for you, add up the cost of your round-trip flight plus a two-night stay at a hotel, plus any food you need besides the day of the event. We approximate this cost to be anywhere from $1000 to $1500, depending on the cost of your flight from wherever you are in the world!
How should I get to LA?
The airports nearest to Los Angeles are: LAX (most popular), Burbank, Ontario, John Wayne, and Long Beach Airport.
How long am I staying?
We recommend getting into LA on Friday, October 14th and staying through Sunday, October 16th, since GIRL will take place all day October 15th!
Where should I stay?
We did some research for you, and we think that your best bet in regards to hotels will be to check out Expedia, Priceline, and and Kayak for hotel deals! Air BnB is another amazing option -- especially if you want to bunk with your IATG sisters! Check out the roommate list below to see who else needs to split a room. Contact each other and organize a weekend sleepover!
I want to split the cost of my hotel room with other girls attending the event! How can I find out who else needs a roomie?
Looking for a roommate (or five!) for #GIRL 2016?! We've got you covered! Fill out the form below and then check out the other responses. This way you can find people who have similar flight times and housing preferences as you! Feel free to contact each other.
Okay, so how am I going to convince my family + friends to help me pay for this?!
We know it feels like a lot to ask, but trust us when we say that the people who love you will be thrilled to have an opportunity to support you! We have a lot of fundraising tips and we are here to help you. For example:
Create a GoFundMe page! One easy way to crowd-fund an event for yourself is through the easy-to-use platform, GoFundMe. Rachel created an example page that you can use as a guide when you create yours! Make sure to talk about WHO we are at IATG, and WHY this event is special to you! Here is Rachel’s GoFundMe page. And here is a tutorial from GoFundMe on creating successful campaigns.
Get the word out! Share your fundraising page on your social media pages! Here is some helpful language you can use: "It is really hard to ask for money for yourself... especially when you like to do everything on your own. But I promise I am worth investing in & so is the amazing organization I am working with. If everyone donated just $1 it would get me to my goal. Please donate & share (LINK TO FUNDRAISING PAGE)"
Email your family + friends directly! Another way to get the word out is to email your family + friends to let them know how to help you. Check out THIS PAGE with helpful tips and language that you can use when you create your emails and post on social media.
What's the low-down on the safety of the location?!
The event will be taking place at a wonderful venue that will be fully secure! While at GIRL, you will be in the trusted hands of a fully-fledged event security staff. So all you have to worry about is having the time of your life!
What should I bring with me to sunny Southern California?
As far as clothing goes, it’s safe to say that the weather will be pleasant and perfect, because that’s what we are #blessed with here in LA. You can plan on it being somewhere between 65 - 75 degrees on the day of the event with pretty low humidity, if any. We want you to be your most comfortable self at GIRL, so pack clothes that make you feel free and beautyFULL - and ready for our infamous spontaneous dance parties!
Besides clothing that feels good you can bring a journal/notebook to reflect on during the event, an open heart and mind, and your true, authentic, badass self!
I want to extend my trip into a mini-vacation! What are some fun things to do in LA?
Great idea! We love LA and we think you will too. Here are some fun things to do near the event to make your trip even more exciting:
Museums, gardens, music events, and more! Discover LA has some great tips.
What are some yummy places to eat near the event?
800 Degrees Pizza (wood-fired delicious pizza!)
Ammo at the Hammer (sandwiches and salads galore!)
Diddy Riese (the best ice cream cookie sandwich of your life!)
In-N-Out Burger (a California staple!)
ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen (a popular Westwood spot!)
I'm not in a Local Chapter, but I am a huge fan of IATG! Can I volunteer?!
Yes! We're so glad you asked. Please fill out our volunteer form and we will email you soon with more information.
