“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Get out and get busy.” –Dale Carnegie
Amen, Dale Carnegie!!
These words came at the perfect time in my life. I have this goal, well, a dream really, and it is so big and so enormous that I haven’t really known where to start. As a matter of fact, it’s been weighing on my heart for a number of years. While I’ve made numerous feeble attempts at bringing this goal to fruition, nothing has ever manifested itself from my efforts. I will be quite honest with you when I say I have allowed my fear of failure to prevent me from following through with this journey.
The real struggle comes from my “Type A” perfectionistic personality. I’m not sure why I feel the need to be so hard on myself, when I am able to be so forgiving with those around me. But alas, though I choose to oversee the mistakes of my loved ones, I find myself stagnant and unmoving toward my goal.
It’s amazing, really, how easy it is to let our fear paralyze us. Regardless of what we are afraid of, we allow our doubts and our insecurities to get the better of us. We could find ourselves at the edge of that cliff ready to jump…but held back by the doubt of whether or not our parachute will open up and guide us safely to the ground. We do this despite knowing, in the back of our mind, that the parachute was made by able hands and can absolutely handle the weight of our fall.
We could conjure up an immeasurable number of "what if's" for any given situation. There will always be consequences for our actions. Some actions will be worth the risk, and others may not have a positive outcome. It’s up to us to determine what risks are worth it to enhance our lives, and to take them!
Whether it’s taking a new job, getting out of a bad relationship, starting a project or starting a family…make sure you know what you truly want. What is going to make your heart the happiest?! If the risk is worth the possibility of incredible happiness, then you have my permission to GO FOR IT!
Don’t let your fear of failure control your dreams. You were put on this Earth to discover your limitless potential! Erin Hansen wrote, “What if I fall? Oh, but my darling what if you fly?” Indeed, my friends… What if YOU FLY?!
