I’m bringing back the tradition of “easy like Sunday morning,” after a long and not much needed hiatus. For a while, Sunday mornings were my favorite part of the week and were quite often my most productive times as well. So, I’m going back to the basics for the time being.
For me, “easy like Sunday morning” was a needed mantra. I needed the time taken off to remember the good things; to take everything with a grain of salt and finally slow down at least once during the week. I just needed to wake up a little slower and not bolt right out of bed just because I felt like I should be doing something with my life. And, I won’t lie, it’s incredibly difficult to actually slow down, but I’ve realized that it’s crucial to take time for yourself every once in a while.
Lately, I’ve been straying from taking care of the #1 in my life, me. I’ve forgotten that taking care of myself should always be top priority. So this Sunday, I took my own advice and got cozy a little longer when I woke up. I calmed the seemingly fast paced thoughts and realized that they’ll still be there in 5 minutes. However, they’d be easier to manage if I gave myself a much-needed breather. To top it all off, I enjoyed a cup of morning coffee and actually enjoyed the morning instead of rushing off to do 500 things at once without much motivation.
And for the longest time, I did “easy like Sunday morning” every week. They were mine, my own personal time off. But somehow I got away from that, not sure why or how. Maybe I started getting back into it this week because I heard the song come on the radio one day at work and realized it’d been some time since I made it a reality.
So here’s to remembering why Sundays can be the best day of the week, even with a Monday morning looming mere hours away. Here’s to remembering why it’s so necessary to take care of ourselves first and foremost. And here’s to remembering why it can be so invigorating to rejuvenate and breathe every once in a while. Here’s to being easy like Sunday morning.
