The older I get, the more I covet and cherish the time I get to spend on my own, independently exploring things around me or just taking the time to recharge. I am, without a doubt, an introverted person. I don’t consider it a bad thing at all. Sometimes I just want to be independent, do my own thing. See things and go on adventures. Discover what’s just beyond my front door on my own to fully immerse myself in an activity and make my own decisions.
It’s a joy to not have to relinquish control to a more dominant friend or feel like I have to make conversation because someone else is around.
Great things happen when you go adventuring in your own backyard.
One of my favorite things to do when I have a day off is to pack up my beach stuff and go lay out on the sand for a few hours. If I feel up to it, I choose a beach I don’t usually go to. Doing that by myself is relaxing, because I can tune out the world, listen to some music, and either lay with my eyes closed or read a book. There is something to be said about being able to relax without being attached to your phone communicating with people or being with a buddy at all times.
Once you’re by yourself, you can be anyone you want to be.
Want to go out and be the creative writer sitting with your laptop and sipping coffee at a Starbucks? You can do that. Want to be the grand adventurer, exploring forests, beachesm and mountains you haven’t conquered yet? You can do that too! Do you want to just sit in a darkened theater taking in the newest romantic comedy while shoving popcorn in your face? Because you can absolutely do that too.
The choice is yours to make. No one else is going to make it for you when you’re being independent, so get out there and make the day your own.
What are some of your favorite independent activities? Make a list of a few things you’ve wanted to try, and then go out and do them….alone! Soak in your independence and be who you wanna be.
