I want you to stop what you’re doing and go look at yourself in the mirror. Yes, take a minute and for once tell yourself how beautiful and strong and enough you are. I know that when you look at yourself, you will immediately be drawn to everything you believe is a mistake. You might say “my stomach is too big,” “my thighs are too big,” “I’m not skinny enough,” “I’m not wearing enough makeup,” “I’m wearing too much makeup,” and the list goes on and on.
When you look at yourself in the mirror, repeat the words, “I love you.” Say it as much as possible until it feels truthful. Yes, it will feel awkward at first, but come on, how many times do we tell everyone else in our lives that we love them. Think about it, do you ever tell yourself that?
“I love you” is only the start.
Continue to look in the mirror and speak of everything that makes you, YOU. Maybe you have eyes that are capable of seeing the beauty in a world that too often focuses on the ugly. Maybe you have a mouth that can speak words of wisdom or that can sing out loud to the music that your ears so beautifully listen to. You have hands that can create and comfort and communicate. You have legs that can carry you through the day and get you from Point A to B. You have feet that carry your whole body weight. You have arms that can lift and give warm hugs to love people. You have a body that has amazing capabilities.
The second you begin to talk negative and doubt yourself, I urge you to be positive and speak to yourself how you would speak to a friend. This life is yours, and you have this one body your whole life; it’s the only thing you’re promised to have. So, please love yourself and thank yourself and know that you are a constant work in progress.
Please know that who you are is enough, so live and love and learn throughout this life and never forget to be yourself and love yourself always.
With the new year, there are so many diet plans circulating on how you should look, but I promise you will not find happiness by looking outwards. Start a new journey on loving yourself and what you need. May you love yourself and be happy in this new year.
