February is known as a month full of chocolates, heart shaped candies, red roses, and an overall theme of love. While it is a month full of love, it does not necessarily mean that love comes from a significant other. It can be from friends, family, co-workers and most importantly, yourself!
It is easy to get overwhelmed with hectic schedules and taking care of everyone around us. We often neglect taking care of ourselves, which is crazy to me. How can we take care of others around us without first taking care of ourselves? My favorite example of this was mentioned in the I AM THAT GIRL book. When you are on an airplane the flight attendants ALWAYS tell you to put your own mask on before helping someone else. After all, how can you expect to help someone put their mask on if you are gasping for air?
This month is the perfect opportunity to take extra measures of self-love. Take a bubble bath several nights a week, make your favorite dessert, go for a long walk, treat yourself to a massage, just make you a priority! It is also very important to surround yourself with friends who also know the importance of self-love. One of my best friends spent last Valentines Day single, but that did not mean that the commercial holiday was not intended for her. What did she do? She treated herself to a lovely bouquet of flowers and takeout from her favorite restaurant. I could not help but chuckle when she recounted the story to me. Not to mention February 14th is not only Valentines Day, but also Singles Awareness Day!
So this February, surround yourself with love! Treat yourself with love, give love and receive love. After all love is the single most important factor in life, which is best summed up in I Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV):
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”
Love is the greatest component of life; make sure you make it a part of your life!
