If you feel like you need to make some changes in your life, or perhaps you’ve set some New Years Resolutions and are falling short, I’d like to invite you to think of someone you admire.
It could be your mom, your boss, Oprah…anyone.
Or, perhaps, it’s the best version of yourself.
Envision yourself 5 years from now living your best life. What do you look like? How are you dressed? What kind of house do you live in? Who are you with? What do you spend your time doing?
This will help give you insight on who you want to become.
Now, when you think about someone you admire, or the best version of yourself, what are they doing differently than your life now?
Do they dress differently? Are they exercising every day? Do they have an air of confidence about them? Perhaps they just seem like a really fun person to be around? This will give you clues about the tangible actions you need to make in order to live out your best life.
Because you see, vision is nothing without action. We may want to do or be or have all these things, but if we don’t take daily action on our vision, we’ll just remain a dreamer.
The best way to know what your inner-thoughts and daily actions are is to take a good, hard look around at your life. If you’re not at the weight you want to be, if you’re not making the income you want, if you’re lacking the relationship you desire, where might your thoughts and actions be out of alignment with your vision?
What would that person you admire do differently?
For me, when I think of someone I admire, I think of glowing vitality. Someone who wakes up early and takes action no matter how they feel. Someone who laughs and smiles often. Someone who is invited to big parties and events because people just want to be around them. Someone who dresses themselves gorgeously, who has fulfilling relationships.
And yet, I struggled for years getting out of bed in the morning. I’d say I wanted to get up early, wake up in a good mood and get a jump on my day. But in reality I was still sleeping in with a less-than-peppy attitude day after day.
I had to think, is this going to get me closer to my dreams? Is this what my role-model would do?
I’ve made a commitment this year to change my actions to align with my ideal life. And the cool thing is that my limiting thoughts and beliefs have changed with it.
So, what are you going to commit to?
