In life there are be seasons of peaks and valleys, and sometimes it is hard to remember that when you are in the middle of a really hard valley! I was in the season of a very low valley for about five years dealing with a severe eating disorder that later sent me to intensive treatment for four months, but there was a single moment in the midst of that battle that gave me hope that one day I would overcome it. I was assured of that on November 5th of 2011. I am a firm believer that God puts everything in our lives for a reason and at the perfect moment. That day was certainly it! I was chosen to be a cheerleader on my all time favorite show One Tree Hill. The show meant so much to me. I began watching it after surgery for a cyst left me bedridden for a time, and I instantly was hooked.
The experience of being on set with all of my favorite characters was surreal! Little did anyone know that I was struggling with my disorder. Sophia Bush, who is one of my biggest inspirations, was a light just when I needed it. The joy that she had was something I wanted back in my life. It was a magical day. Once the show wrapped, Bethany Joy Lenz came up to me out of the blue. I was so shocked that she wanted to talk to me; I can only imagine the look on my face! She told me that she was watching me cheer and thought I was beautiful. I couldn’t believe it! One of my biggest inspirations was telling me she thought I was beautiful! She had no idea that I hadn’t eaten all day, or couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror, or take a picture because I was ashamed of myself.

I even hesitated writing that because I still do not believe, nor did I want to appear as if I was bragging, but it was in that moment that I knew that I needed to get help for my disorder. I was determined to get better so I could live a life filled with wonderful memories and experiences. I know that God knew I needed that moment, and it will forever have a special place in my heart. I am also eternally grateful for Sophia and Bethany. I hope to one day get the opportunity to share my story to them, so they know just how much they impacted my life! In all this to say no matter how bad a time in your life is, it will not last. It is just a fleeting moment, and it is only a matter of time before you see the light.
