Don't be afraid to dream BIG
by Anne-Sophie Noel
Back in February, I discovered artist photographer Jeremy Cowart when his video I’m Possible ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC-rpAkfE2I ) went somewhat viral on social media. To this day, it is still one of my favourite things on the Internet. The 25 minute long video tells the story of a man who succeeded against all odds, and who is chasing his wildest dreams fearlessly. I found it really inspiring so I took some time to reflect on my dreams.
Dreaming gives you something to live for, it gives you purpose.
Let me tell you a bit about my dream. One day, I want to write a book and get it published. I already have a concept and some pages written down. Ever since I started writing on my blog and for I AM THAT GIRL, I found that I can touch people with my words and I want to do it on a larger scale. This is where the fear and self-doubt kicks in.
Writing a book? I can’t do that.
Getting it published? I’m not good enough.
Making a difference in the world? Impossible.
I know I’m not the only one who goes through this train of thought. The thing is, when you start listening to the voice inside your head saying you’re not enough, you start believing it, and eventually you start acting like it. You stop putting in the effort, and your dreams die before they even had a chance.
Your dreams should not remain just ideas in your head. They could make a significant impact on the world, if you are only brave enough to pursue them.
Jeremy Cowart understood that. For years, he dreamed of building a hotel chain that he calls the Purpose Hotel. It’s a place where everything would be connected to a cause or a non-profit: the room keys, the soap, the furniture, the art. Everything. He knew it was a great idea, but he was also terrified because of how big of a project this is. Well, on July 19th, Jeremy launched a campaign to crowdfund the Purpose Hotel. It may be a small step, but it’s the first step to turning his dreams into reality.
Now, what about your dreams? If you had something in mind the whole time you read this article, don’t wait any longer and take that first step too. You have no idea how far it could take you.
